U.S. Department of Transportation releases new transportation toolkit

The Every Place Counts: Leadership Academy, created under the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Ladders of Opportunity Initiative, has released a new resource designed to provide key background information and tools for emerging transportation leaders and other stakeholders who have limited experience with the transportation decision-making process. The “Every Place Counts Leadership Academy Transportation Toolkit” is now online and available for reference and download.

Effective transportation systems are an important building block for Defense communities to guide compatible community development, support base redevelopment and economic transition, and ensure an adequate transportation network to support enduring installations. Transportation planning guides public investment and timing decisions for necessary transportation improvements to meet community mobility, accessibility, safety, economic and quality-of-life needs. Engaging the public in the transportation planning process is key to successful and responsive transportation projects.

The toolkit is a beneficial reference document for stakeholders that support Defense communities:

  • State Departments of Transportation
  • Metropolitan Planning Organizations
  • Local Governments
  • Public Transit Providers
  • Resource and Regulatory Agencies
  • Citizens and Community Organizations
