New Orleans Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base

To evaluate community needs and capabilities, and provide assistance to Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base (NAS JRB) New Orleans, Plaquemines and Jefferson Parishes, LA, in response to possible impairment of mission activities by civilian encroachment from surrounding communities. A significant amount of land to the northwest, west and south of the base is undeveloped, a majority of which is owned by only two individuals. Development of this land in an incompatible manner could have adverse impacts on base operations. Elements found to be of immediate or mid-term concern to the military mission as noted in the NAS JRB New Orleans Encroachment Action Plan (February 2007), include urban growth, noise, airspace restrictions, stormwater management/flooding and conflicting regulatory or political guidance.
