As a result of a $700K OLDCC Compatible Use Investment, the State of South Dakota and Ellsworth AFB invested $23M for a new regional wastewater treatment plant servicing the City of Box Elder and the base, saving the Air Force $8M and lowering their annual O&M costs by approximately $260K. Additionally, the South Dakota Ellsworth Development Authority (SDEDA): (1) purchased 72 properties (2,872 acres) near and in the Accident Potential Zones (APZs) and high noise contours at a cost of $15.8M ($4.4M SDEDA, $8M Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration buffer funds, and $3.4M Air Force O&M funds); and, (2) funded approximately $300K to demolish over 200 structures in the APZs and high noise contours.
